Flower seller gives in to son's demand, buys him iPhone after he goes on hunger strike
When it comes to teens and young adults, any attempts to show them reason and logic almost always fail. Take this case for instance: a flower seller was recently forced to buy his son an iPhone after he went on a three-day hunger strike. Rather than see how his mother was struggling to make ends meet, this young man chose to go after a phone, and he made his mother buy it for him.
Sometimes it's easy to lose sight of things, so we take a stand for the wrong thing. Standing up for what you believe in or simply for the right reason is one thing. But to do so for something as banal an object as a phone, takes the madness to a whole new level. But when it comes to teens and young adults, any attempts to show them reason and logic almost always fail. Take this case for instance: a flower seller was recently forced to buy his son an iPhone after he went on a three-day hunger strike. Shared by a page called 'Ghar Ke Kalesh' on X, the video shows a mobile shop owner in conversation with the no-so-bright boy who stands proudly with his mother's money in his hands. "This Guy stopped eating food and was demanding iPhone from her mother, His mother finally relented and gave him money to buy iPhone. She sells flowers outside a mandir," reads the caption.
Going by the clip, the man interviewing him is the owner of the mobile store the young kid walked into along with his mother. Genuinely curious, the man asks him why he's come to the store. "To buy an iPhone," he responds with a smile on his face. He then reveals that his mother gave him the cash he's now standing with in his hands. The man then turns to the mother to corroborate his story. "Is it true you sell flowers at a temple?" he asks her. Speaking in a local dialect, she explains that she'll happily continue to do so as long as her son eats, which he hasn't for three whole days. She adds that one day he'll bring her the same amount back.
The man then hands him the phone, and tells him to hand him the cash and do the "unboxing."
The video is uncomfortable to watch, to say the least. There's so much that's wrong here. A troubled mother who worked hard as a flower seller just so her son could buy a smartphone. The boy then eventually does go and buy a phone that'll easily be outdated in some months, thereby wasting money that could've benefitted them in many other ways. Also problematic is the look of pride on the young man's face, as if going on a three-day hunger strike and emotionally manipulating a troubled parent finally paid off big time. Should parents give in so easily to their children's demands? If yes, then what message are we sending them?
