UK Food Critic Trolls Salt Bae's New Restaurant By Eating & Reviewing 'Cheap' Kebabs Outside His Eatery
In the review, the critic discussed the joy of eating a cheap kebab but also highlighted the absurdity of the food sold at Salt Bae's restaurant.
The new restaurant opened by celebrity chef Salt Bae has been taking the internet by storm for its outrageously expensive prices. It's again being talked about for various reasons.
While netizens have been debating about the exorbitant prices, one food critic has gone viral with a stunt that involved eating a cheap kebab outside the restaurant. Jay Rayner was basically trying to tell his followers there are other things to spend their money on. In his case, it was a takeaway kebab.
The critic didn't step inside the steakhouse. Instead, he arranged his own table, chair, and tablecloth to set up a small dining space for himself.
Rayner ate a lamb shawarma kebab from the ¡®the legendary Kebab Kid¡¯ in Parsons Green. After that, he posted a full review of it on The Observer.
"This week¡¯s column. I was never going to splash the @ObserverUK¡¯s money on one of Salt Bae¡¯s crass ?800+ gold-leafed steaks. Instead, I got an ?8.50 take away kebab, a really good one from Kebab Kid, and ate that outside while musing on the stupidity inside," Rayner tweeted.

In the review, the critic discussed the joy of eating a cheap kebab but also highlighted the absurdity of the food sold at Salt Bae's restaurant.
"Food wrapped in gold will literally taste of nothing, at least at first. Weird as it may sound, I like my food to taste something. Which is why I decided to get mine from Kebab Kid," reads a line from the review.
People on the internet had a lot of comments regarding this picture, the dig and of course, Salt Bae.
The Instagram feed of nusr et is hilarious, I'm convinced it'll come out that Salt Bae is a new Sacha Baron Cohen character ?

Even if I had the money, I doubt I'd pick the ?800 option. It sounds joyless, whereas your review makes the kebab sound like delicious fun

Mid to late 90s when I was still an Ealing lad, on my mates recommendation I drove from W5 to SW6 purely for a Kebab Kid one Sunday afternoon ¡°the best doner in London¡± and he wasn¡¯t wrong.

I¡¯m now thinking of driving from North Yorkshire to get one!!
Great writing Jay ?
Absolutely brilliant article saying a great deal about true value and our ridiculous social media led society.

This is an obvious reference to the gold-covered steak at Nusr-Et steakhouse. What do you think about this?
