'Idiotic!' Protests Erupt After Companies In Japan Ban Women From Wearing Glasses At Work
Some companies in Japan are barring women from wearing glasses in the workplace. The airline sector cited safety reasons for the ban. Some restaurants argued that glasses do not got with say a more traditional Japanese outfit like a kimono.
In an incident you won't believe belongs to the year 2019, reportedly some companies in Japan are barring women from wearing glasses in the workplace. Why? Because glasses apparently give a 'cold impression' to female staffers, these companies have reportedly said.
That's not all. It gets more ridiculous. While some restaurants argued that glasses do not got with say a more traditional Japanese outfit like a kimono, employers in the beauty sector claimed that customers were not able to see the female workers' makeup properly.
And in true 2019 fashion, the ban sparked a controversy and women were up in arms against the move that one user even termed 'idiotic!'

The airline sector cited safety reasons. Nippon TV also reported that firms makes female workers wear contact lenses instead of glasses. But this wasn't going to go away unnoticed. Furious people took to Twitter and gave the social media platform its latest hashtag: #Glassesban.
One woman wrote that she was forced to wear contact lenses even when she told her company that she was suffering from an eye infection. There was plenty of discomfort but no solution to the problem. Most others posted pictures of what the world looked like to them with glasses and without, to prove just how important glasses can be to someone with weak eyesight.

¡°The policing of women¡¯s bodies and what we wear continues to be a tool to enforce patriarchy,¡± the campaigner told The Independent. ¡°It¡¯s 2019 and still women are fighting to be seen for our value and work,¡± Uma Mishra-Newbery, executive director of Women¡¯s March Global said.
Not too long ago, Japan had seen another protest over companies forcing women to wear heels in offices. More than 31,000 signed a petition calling for the requirement to be banned.

Why do people enforce things on women? Isn¡¯t it our choice to wear heels or glasses if we feel like?
