On Wednesday, Bengalureans woke up to a rather rude and tasteless matrimonial ad posted on a national daily. The matrimonial agency in Bengaluru listed ¡®beautiful girls¡¯ as a category to become ¡®young achievers¡¯ in their campaigns.
The ad called for entries by 'young achievers' who must be successful entrepreneurs, eminent professionals from IAS, IPS, IRS or scientist, youngsters graduated from top universities like IIM, IIT etc.
But the worst was when they described 'beautiful girls' as an achievement. The 'ultra-rich' were also a separate category. The event was scheduled to happen at The Leela, Bangalore, and the registration fee was Rs. 10,000 for 'young achievers' and Rs. 25,000 for 'rich families'.
Elitist and sexist much, ain't it? The ad soon went viral on social media with many slamming the organisers:

It's 2018 and there's a young achievers matrimony meet that promises beautiful girls. This whole thing is regressive on so many counts. pic.twitter.com/qgp8qAXMsZ

Achievements include successful entrepreneurship, entry into elite universities... or for women, just being beautiful.

¡°Young achievers matrimony meet¡± appalled to see this #ad floating on social media. Who are the young achievers? Doctors #IITians #IIAMs. High net families? Is this a business deal or what? Worst still, this event is sold out! Good luck to marriages based on these qualifications! pic.twitter.com/YlZVx1TIJY

The very next day, the newspaper published a 'note to reader' from its editors which read: "
"The language used in the advertisement was in poor taste. We are strengthening our internal advertisement copy vetting processes to ensure such incidents do not recur. We appreciate the candid feedback from our readers".
As promised, Mr Sreeram who put the Young Achievers Matrimony ad, apologised today. It's published on page 3 of The Hindu Bangalore edition. pic.twitter.com/x6usaSpTvC
