A wedding in the UK descended into chaos after a 50-person brawl erupted, resulting in nine members of the same family being jailed for the incident.

The massive brawl reportedly caused ?18,000 (Rs 18 lakh) worth of damage at the Daresbury Park Hotel in Cheshire and left the walls covered in blood and glass.

Michael Stokes, 56, dislocated his shoulder after throwing a chair during the fracas that turned the wedding venue into a wrestling arena. He has been jailed for two years for his role in a ¡®bloodbath¡¯ wedding fight.

Earlier, eight members of his family were jailed for their part in the violence, which saw some guests barricade themselves into a function room for safety.

Michael joins John Stokes, 23, John Steven Stokes, 27, Stephen Stokes, 25, Brian Stokes, 25, Edward Joseph Stokes, 21, Thomas Stokes, 30, Edward William Stokes, 28, and Terry Stokes, 36, who are all behind bars.

CCTV footage played in court showed chairs, tables, and glasses being thrown by them at one another. Even fire extinguishers were used as weapons during the fight.

Things went so out of control that when police turned up they had to retreat until backup arrived, leaving them scrapping for 45 minutes.

A barman said the brawl erupted after three men were arguing at around 11 pm local time, but by the time he returned 15 minutes later, dozens of guests were fighting.

Stokes family caused damages worth Rs 18 lakh

Chester Crown Court heard how damage estimated to be worth around ?16,000 was caused to the hotel, as well as damage of ?2,400 to items belonging to the wedding planner.

In addition to the damage, which the Stokes family paid for, ?300 of alcohol was stolen as glass was taken to be used as weapons.

The hotel manager said the incident was the ¡®worst he had ever seen in his career¡¯. On the other hand, the wedding planner said that nine years of stock was destroyed, which impacted other weddings that wanted to hire out the items.

The court heard how Michael Stokes previously pleaded guilty to a charge of violent disorder.

He also gave no replies during his police interview after initially claiming he was acting in self-defence.

Stokes has a previous conviction for the same charge of violent disorder in 2013, for which he was jailed for two years. He also has previous convictions of dishonesty.

On the repeat of the violent disorder offence, the judge remarked that Stokes has ¡®clearly not learnt his lesson¡¯.
