Optical Illusion: Can You Tell Which Way The Circle Is Turning In This Mind-bending Video?
Optical illusions are a hot trend these days, and it seems the internet's appetite for having its collective mind boggled and bent is stronger than ever.
Optical illusions are a hot trend these days, and it seems the internet's appetite for having its collective mind boggled and bent is stronger than ever.
Now, another baffling optical illusion has caused a stir online. A short animation clip shows 12 wedge-shaped blocks arranged into a circle that rotates in a constant loop.
However, the direction in which the circle is moving has divided the internet.
It gets baffling when you watch the clip, as the orientation appears to switch, with both the right and left sides appearing to be in the foreground.
If you look at one face, it changes direction. Look at the other, and it changes back.

The clip has garnered more than 1 million views and tons of comments.
"Love how the brain sees it differently depending on where it puts a focus," a user commented.
"This is pure optics. The shades that are continuously changing are changing the shape and view of the structure. Nothing but a nice headache if you all, but ask," another user wrote.
"Says everything about my brain that I immediately target and zero in on the lower left and upper right ^pivot ̄ points to keep my mind from fracturing," another user said.
Very nice. If you follow an individual segment around, you see how the magic happens half-way up on the right side.

It's a cool effect, but you can see the slight warpage of the shapes in three corners of it, which is why it has that effect.

As per The Sun, the illusion works using a bit of animation trickery to make the blocks appear as if they are going in two directions at once.
Keep your eye on a single block at the nine or three o'clock positions in the circle. They change shape as they rotate.
Optical Illusion with arrows makes you think circles are moving
Earlier, an illusion showing two circles with arrows inside that appear to be moving across the screen went viral. If you look at it - nine times out of ten, or even ten out of ten, your brain will think rings are moving, thanks to the optical illusion. The image, shared by Japanese Twitter user Jagarikin, has left thousands scratching their heads.

A GIF shows dark grey arrows on a grey background surrounded by colourful wheels. The illusion works by constantly changing colours and the direction of the arrows to keep you wondering. However, what is confusing is the fact that the circles are changing colours constantly. This creates an illusion that they are moving on their own. But, they aren't.
The constant video loop of the colours going around the circle could also be very deceiving.
