Pentagon's New Office To Investigate Alien Sightings Has Left UFO Believers Divided

The possibility of extraterrestrial life has always piqued our interest. No life beyond earth has ever been found, and there is no evidence that alien life has ever visited our planet.

This does not mean, however, that there isn't a possibility of more intelligent beings looking up into their night sky from very different worlds and asking the same kind of question. While no clear signs of life have ever been detected, the possibility of extraterrestrial life ¨C has grown increasingly plausible.

The truth is out there, and the new office at the Pentagon has been tasked with investigating UFOs, but not everyone is convinced by the idea.

In late last year, US officials signed off on the crack team of UFO specialists. The team is entrusted to uncover and identify UFOs, some of which may be considered threats to national security, NBC News reported.

The dedicated unit is called the Anomaly Surveillance and Resolution Office (ARSO).

It will probe whether or not the some of the unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) that have been spotted by the US military are unknown technology from Russia and China or potentially something more alien.

But some think the new Pentagon UFO office won't change anything.

Critics have warned that the government will simply cover-up any major findings.

Mutual UFO Network spokesperson Ron James warned that the public is unlikely to find out about any evidence of alien interference.

"This is a subject with a provable history of secrecy. And anything that lacks a new openness about the information is subject to more, possibly inappropriate control," James told NBC News.

"We don't see that this means new resources will be dedicated to the matter. We believe considerable resources have always been dedicated to the matter at some level inside deep government and industry,' he added.

US Congressman Tim Burchett tweeted in reply to the news with stark criticism.

"We should never trust the Pentagon," the Knoxville, Tennessee lawmaker said.

"They will never tell us the full story on the UFO issue."

Mick West, a noted UFO debunker, reckons all the noise about UFOs has just given the Pentagon the go-ahead to do something it was going to do anyway ¨C not because of alien visitors but because of the worry over other countries creating more advanced aerospace technology.

There are noble reasons not to lie: the golden rule of morality - do unto others as you would have them do unto you. But there are also practical reasons. If you never lie, you never have to remember your lies, and when under scrutiny you can simply, effortlessly, tell the truth.

The landmark Pentagon report of the objects released last year - now more commonly known as Unidentified Aerial Phenomena (UAP) - admitted there is something unknown in the skies.

It remains to be seen how Pentagon's new office will work and how much, if any, information will be shared. The critics are out in the open calling the move nothing more than a distraction, while others have hailed the legislation.
