Hair-raising Footage Shows Plane Making Dramatic Landing On US Highway Before Bursting Into Flames

A small plane made a dramatic landing on a highway in California, U.S., hitting a truck before bursting into flames.

The single-engine Cessna aircraft made its emergency landing on the 91 Freeway in Corona, California, on Tuesday afternoon.

Heart-stopping footage going viral shows the plane dropping from the sky before one of the wings collided with a passing pickup truck, ripping one of its wings.

The video then shows the plane bouncing on the roadway upon impact and erupting in flames, releasing plumes of thick, black smoke.

Fortunately, the pilot and passenger onboard were both able to get themselves out of the plane safely, California Highway Patrol (CHP) said. The plane also crashed into a truck with three people inside, who were also luckily unharmed.

The pilot, Andrew Cho, said he took off from the nearby Corona Municipal Airport for a short trip earlier in the day. When he flew back to the airport, his plane suddenly lost power and he had to find a spot on the highway to set the aircraft down.

¡°(We¡¯re) very fortunate today that the traffic was light, and the pilot appears to have made some good landing navigation that avoided what could have been a very bad tragedy,¡± CHP Capt Levi Miller told KTLA.

At least two of the right lanes of the freeway were shut down, and the Lincoln Avenue onramp to the eastbound freeway was closed by Corona police.

Plane makes emergency landing on North Carolina highway

Earlier in July, a viral video showed a plane making an emergency landing on a highway in North Carolina, U.S. The pilot was forced to execute an emergency landing by dodging traffic and power lines after his aircraft experienced engine failure.

According to reports, Vincent Fraser was flying with his father-in-law over Swain County when the engine of his aircraft began to fail.

¡°I started going through my checklist and I was able to get the aircraft to restart and kind of fly a little bit, but she would only fly for 3 to 5 seconds, and then she would come back down and start to sink again,¡± he said.

The report added that the plane dropped lower and lower, Fraser tried to look for a place to land and fortunately, he saw a road where he could land the plane.

¡°The first thing like that went through my head was, I don't want to hurt anybody and I don't want to kill anybody. So, you know, that was like my main concern,¡± the pilot said.

Fraser lowered the place by steering clear power lines and vehicles on the highway. The emergency landing was captured on his GoPro camera from the cockpit. Footage of the incident was shared on social media by Swain County Sheriff's Office.
