Political Party Replaces Photos Of Female Candidates With Their Husbands'. Sexist Much?
Social Democratic Party of India SDPI claims to stand for women empowerment. But their pamphlet has replaced the photos of women candidates with their husbands. This blatant lack of respect and representation for women sparked debate among netizens.
We might talk a lot about women empowerment and how women have broken through the shackles of sexism in all areas of work. But that's far from the reality. Sexism, for women involved in politics, is all too real.
This political party pamphlet from Mangaluru is proof. According to a New 18 report, the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) "claims to stand for women empowerment".
But, their pamphlet has replaced the photos of women candidates with their husbands'!
Well then!
The picture was shared by a Twitter user who writes,"Hilarious! Women empowerment at zenith! SDPI contestants of Women reserved corporation wards at Ullala, Mangaluru has placed their husbands' pic leaving their own blank!"
Hilarious !

The report states that Municipality election is to be held on August 31 and it's the first time that 50% of the seats are reserved for women.
While defending themselves, the SDPI party candidates told the News Minute, that it was not compulsory that the candidates' pictures be displayed and that it was a mere formality.
This blatant lack of respect and representation for women sparked debate among netizens.
Take a look at how some Twitter users lashed out:

The one and only black burka photo.
It's 2018 and disappointing to know that sexism still exists and we as a country have a long way to go.
