Not too long ago, the film ¡®Cocaine Bear¡¯ made its way to the big screens after the tale of the cocaine-fueled bear went viral all over the internet. Now, giving the film competition or perhaps material for a sequel, news of a feline high on cocaine has gone viral.
Serval Cat Tests Positive For Cocaine After Fugitive Escape
The cat was found lounging on a branch in Cincinnati, USA. At the time of this report, the feline was under the care of the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Gardens. Officials have confirmed that the cat has tested positive for consuming cocaine, aka nose candy.
Back in January, it was reported that an African Serval cat, named Amiry, had fled the scene while its owner was being cuffed by the police. The man was being arrested in Oakley while the feline escaped the tussle and was later found on a branch after reports were lodged about the spotting of a leopard in the neighbourhood.
The call was responded to by Hamilton County Dog Wardens and Cincinnati Animal CARE, who reached the scene and managed to get the cat down from the tree. Ray Anderson of the Cincinnati Animal CARE said that the wild cat was "not excited" to be removed from the tree.
He also told Fox 19, "We got called in to get the cat out of the tree. [They weren't] sure what they were dealing with. Hindsight being 20/20, it probably would have involved a whole lot more people."
Even Though Owning An African Serval Is Illegal In Ohio, The Owner Escaped Charges
The kitty, which weighed around 14.9 kg, was a hassle to get around, explained the official. He added, "In the process of getting the cat out of the tree... obviously, the cat didn¡¯t want to get out of the tree... and our officers were working really hard to make sure they didn¡¯t lose the cat in the process... Yeah, the leg was broken in the process."
After the cat was brought down from the tree and taken to Cincinnati Animal CARE¡¯s facility, a toxicology test was administered, which revealed that the feline was high on cocaine. Anderson noted, "Now, we can't say how the animal got the cocaine in the system. I don't know if it was environmental or experimental."
While the Hamilton County Dog launched an investigation into the matter, Anderson shared that everyone involved in the case was cooperative, and ultimately the owner of the cat was not charged, even though owning an exotic cat from Africa is illegal in Ohio. Afterward, the Cincinnati Zoo took over and brought the cat into its care.
