This South Korean Dude Faked A Robbery, So He Could Go To Prison & Get Free Healthcare!

Quite a peculiar incident happened at a bank in South Korea. A man barged in and brandished a knife to hold-up a bank. But, it turned out that he was only staging a robbery with a toy knife in a bank near Seoul, and he had no intention of carrying out a robbery or looting the bank. The reason this 40-year-old man faked the heist is that he WANTED to get arrested so that he could receive medical treatment in prison.

But he confessed to his ¡®plan¡¯ to the police in Daejeon, 90 miles south of Seoul, which means that the police only charged him with intimidation and not robbery. He will probably not receive the punishment he was hoping for - to be sent to prison.

According to the police, the ¡®polite¡¯ robber entered the bank with the toy knife and pointed the ¡®weapon¡¯ at one of the employees.

The staff was reportedly baffled at this man, who has not yet been named, who made no demands. He just stood their calmly and asked the members to just call the police. Authorities were quick to respond to the call and detained the ¡®suspect¡¯. It all happened with 4 minutes.

The employees reportedly said that the man, ¡°polite speech and actions¡± were ¡°strange¡±. They also reported that he made absolutely no efforts to resist the arrest.

The police later confirmed that the unemployed man who lives with his mother had admitted to having no intention to rob the bank. He just wanted to be arrested and sent to prison. He reportedly suffers from chronic back pain but he cannot afford the treatment that he requires, hence he came up with the idea of a ¡®robbery.¡¯

Unemployment in South Korea has increased significantly since 2017. 30% of the country¡¯s population is reportedly out of work since May 2017. These numbers increased in the winter months with more than 43 percent to 909,000 country¡¯s people being unemployed in November of 2018. And in February 2019 this number increased to 1.3 million.

67% of the citizens¡¯ medical costs are reimbursed by the government in South Korea. The elderly and the young do not have to pay medical bills.

The South Korean government has announced its plan to provide assured health insurance to each of its citizens from 2022. However, concerns have been raised about the funding of such a program as the economy of the country is contracting and less number of people are entering the workforce compared to the growing number of people who require pension and healthcare.
