British Woman's Hiccups Started During Her First Pregnancy & It's Been Nonstop For 12 Years!

What started as a bout of hiccups during her first pregnancy, stuck on to this British woman for a whopping 12 years.

It's not like a hiccup that comes and goes, for Lisa Graves these hiccups can go anywhere between 20 to 100 times a day and that's insanity.

In an interview with Caters News, Graves said that her hiccups sounds like a dog squealing in pain and that it increases in situations where she is anxious.

Lisa Graves (31), gave birth to her first child Emily in 2008. While the baby was born healthy, Graves was left hiccupping.

The hiccups are random - maybe 20 in an hour or none at all. They vary in volume. Consumption of fizzy drinks and alcohol can worsen the condition.

"I mentioned it to my midwife initially and she said it was quite common to get hiccups throughout pregnancy - it was a way of getting a quick burst of oxygen to the baby so I didn't really think much more of it," BBC quoted her as saying.

"Sometimes I might get three or four in succession, sometimes it might be an hour in between, but they are everyday without fail."

Although chronic hiccups can be cured, Graves refuses the medication because of potential side effects. She's also avoided having tests as she was afraid of being told that she had a brain tumour.

"I do a bit of negativity with it every now and then - rude remarks, dirty looks, but it has just become a part of everyday life for me," she said.

Graves dealt with a lot of embarrassment but has now learned to love with it.
