A Japanese tourist, Junko Shinba, was visiting Singapore on a trip recently when she decided to tag along with her sightseeing group to the famous seafood paradise in Vivocity last month. Things were going great as the party of four settled down at a table. However, the mood changed when an Alaskan crab came into the picture.

It all started with a waiter¡¯s advice to Shinba. The waiter suggested the tourist try the Alaskan King chilli crab dish, a signature dish of the restaurant. Taking the waiter¡¯s advice, the group ordered the Alaskan crab, but confusion caused disaster to hit the Japanese group.
Why Were The Cops Called?
According to Shinba, she was told the dish was worth $30 Singapore dollars (approximately Rs 1800). The tourist claims that she was never informed that this price of the crab was only applicable for 100 grammes of crab, which means that the dish was $30 per 100 grammes of crab.
Without realising what they were getting into, the group ordered way more than they could eat and ended up with crabs weighing around 3,500 grammes on their table. This meant the bill would definitely be upwards of $938 (over Rs 56K).
50-year-old Shinba told AsiaOne, ¡°We all became speechless knowing that one dinner for four adults cost that much.¡± She claimed, ¡°None of us were informed that the whole crab would be cooked only for us, as some other restaurants serve crabs partially.¡±
Shinba also mentioned how they were served so much crab that ¡°there were three plates full of crab¡± left over. However, a spokesperson for Seafood Paradise insists that the price was ¡°clearly communicated.¡± They added, ¡°To prevent any miscommunication, the staff even brought the whole Alaskan King crab to the table before preparation.¡±
Shinba was outraged after a bill totaling $1,322 (over Rs 83K) was produced before them and called the cops as well as the Singapore Tourism Board.

Once the cops arrived, attempts to settle the dispute began. Eventually, the restaurant offered a $107.40 discount to the customer "out of goodwill," reportedly said the restaurant owners. This left the Japanese tourist with a bill worth approximately $1215, which amounts to around Rs 73,000.
