ATM theft is common but this one incident from Tamil Nadu will make you laugh your wits out at the thief who tried to commit the crime but it backfired on him. The incident took place in Aniyapuram in Namakkal district of the south Indian state in the early hours of Thursday morning, reported Times of India.
The police identified the man as M Upendra Roy of East Champaran district in Bihar. The 28-year-old was taken into custody after being 'rescued'. Confused? Well, looks like the thief's strategy to steal the money did not go as planned - in an inebriated state, he removed the plywood stuck on the wall behind the ATM and managed to reach the back of the machine.
However, when he tried to break open the machine with a stone, residents heard the sound and informed authorities. After arriving on the scene, the police found Roy stuck between the wall and ATM machine. He was then rescued and arrested.
He was produced before a judicial magistrate on Thursday evening and was remanded in judicial custody. He is lodged in Namakkal sub-jail.
