A shocking case has been reported from Korea.
South Korean police have reported that an ardent true crime enthusiast, fixated on murder-themed TV shows and books, has purportedly confessed to the murder and dismemberment of a female tutor, claiming curiosity as the motive.
According to the police spokesperson, Jung Yoo-Jung, 23, was arrested in Busan on Wednesday.
The Chosun Ilbo, South Korea's oldest daily newspaper, has reported this. According to the Korea Times, she received a formal murder charge on Friday.
According to The Chosun Ilbo, a police spokesman claimed that Jung had premeditated the crime because she had become obsessed with murder after watching TV shows and reading books about it.
The police have not made the identity of the brutal stabbing victim, a female independent tutor, public, according to The Korea Times.
Jung Yoo-Jung allegedly found the tutor online. Investigators from The Chosun Ilbo claim that Jung initially posed as a ninth-grade student's mother, seeking a private tutor for her daughter to learn English.
Three months before the murder, police discovered Jung had searched online for information on hiding a corpse, based on her phone records.
The police stated that Jung borrowed books from a library and watched true crime shows to learn methods of killing someone.
According to the police, Jung used a tutoring app to locate her victim while equipped with knowledge of fatal stabbing techniques.
Two days before the incident, Jung contacted the tutor and arranged a consultation at home, claiming she would send her daughter there.
On the day of the stabbing, Jung reportedly appeared at the victim's house wearing a school uniform purchased online.
The police spokesperson suggests the victim likely mistook her for a middle school student due to her short stature. Tragically, when the victim opened the door, Jung allegedly stabbed her with a knife.
After the murder, Jung dismembered the woman, according to the police.
Jung bought bleach and garbage bags from a nearby grocery store, then placed the body parts in a suitcase. She took a taxi to a wooded area near the Nakdong River and left the bag there.
The Chosun Ilbo reported that Jung kept the victim's phone, ID card, and wallet to make it appear that the victim had vanished.
A suspicious taxi driver alerted the police, who allegedly discovered the remaining parts of the victim's body at Jung's residence and in the garbage bags.
Initially, Jung claimed that she killed the woman following an argument.
However, as investigators found inconsistencies in her story and her family urged her to tell the truth, she confessed, according to the police.
The police spokesperson mentioned that Jung expressed remorse for her actions, and they are conducting tests to determine if she exhibits psychopathic traits.
According to The Korean Times, Jung reportedly said, "I think I was out of my mind," when questioned about the alleged crime.
