This Woman Lost Her Forehead During A Car Accident, She Now Has A Ceramic One
Gr¨¢inne Kealy was left without a forehead for two years after her knees were slammed into her face at 120mph when her boyfriend's jeep skidded on black ice and hit a wall
A woman who lost her forehead after she put her feet on the dashboard during a horrible car accident revealed what her new head looks like.
This woman named Gr¨¢inne Kealy from Ireland was in a car which skidded on some black ice and hit a wall. This incident happened in the year 2006.
Since Gr¨¢inne¡¯s feet were kept up on the dashboard that was over the airbag, her knees were slammed back into her face as the airbag inflated at up to 200mph, breaking almost every bone in her face.
The woman also got a brain leak which is known as a CSF (Cerebrospinal Fluid) and lost two of her teeth. After the accident, she was rushed to the nearest hospital where she underwent surgery to stop the brain leak and to work on her facial fractures.
But due to the infection caused, doctors were forced to remove Gr¨¢inne¡¯s forehead leaving her without one for two years. However, in 2009 surgeons at Beaumont Hospital managed to reconstruct Gr¨¢inne's face by fitting her with a ceramic forehead.
Gr¨¢inne told Ireland: AM: ¡°I looked¡ scary. I mean, part of your face is missing. And you can touch your brain. ¡°My doctor¡¯s loved me - because you¡¯re never going to get to touch the brain of someone who is alive.¡±
Talking about her new forehead, she said that it is ceramic. Before joking: ¡°It was made in Italy - I like to think it¡¯s designer!¡±
Back in 2019, she also said how she knows that there is a new head but can't remember what it was like before getting the new forehead. "Since it was first fitted, I've had fat taken from my stomach and injected either side of it to plump it out because you could see the edges."
After the accident, the woman has been trying to educate others about road safety. She has been recognised with two awards by the Road Safety Authority for her dedication to educating others, previously said having her new forehead had its up and downs. She said: "In one way it's great to get that people can't tell the difference, but in another way, it does mess with your head because I see a difference [to how she looked before the accident].
Well, the lesson is totally learnt.
