What Does Personal Data Leak Of Users Imply? How Does It Affect You?
In addition to the immediate loss of personal information, the data breach exposes boAt customers to heightened risks of financial fraud, scams, and identity theft. Threat actors could potentially exploit individuals' personal details to gain unauthorized access to bank accounts, carry out fraudulent transactions, and misuse credit cards.
As you may know, if a hacker gains access to the database, they can exploit your phone number and email ID to bypass device security measures and launch phishing attacks. These attacks can result in the theft of data or even money by infecting your devices with malware.
Scammers may contact individuals using their personal information on dark web and attempt to trick them into clicking on malicious links or downloading harmful apps. With the increasing use of AI by hackers, there is a growing concern about the potential for these technologies to be used to manipulate customers and coerce them into revealing further sensitive information, which should be avoided at all costs.
Threat Intelligence Researcher Saumay Srivastava told Forbes, ¡°The consequences for companies include a loss of customer confidence, legal consequences and reputational harm. The major implications make it even more essential to implement adequate security practice."
What Do You Need To Do To Prevent Scams And Phishing?
Instead of panicking, secure your log-ins, passwords, and PINS of bank accounts and other important apps. Keep a close eye on every activity in your accounts. Avoid engaging with unknown callers or responding to unfamiliar texts.
Established in 2016 by Shark Tank judge Aman Gupta and Sameer Mehta, boAt emerged as the second most sought-after wearable brand in the third quarter of 2023, according to an IDC report.
