In its newly built office in California, Google has been highlighting the many innovations in the first building that the internet giant has completely designed and constructed. Google has even relocating employees to concentrate on its most prominent project: generative artificial intelligence.
Poor Wifi In New Google Office Invites Trolling On Social Media
However, in the past few days, some Google employees are claiming they wish the innovations in the newly built office had come with good Wi-Fi. Some employees are claiming that the "Bay View" building, which is part of the Alphabet unit's Mountain View, California, headquarters, has suffered from unreliable or, at best, sporadic Wi-Fi for months.
Teams carrying laptops find its heavily padded collaborative workspaces unsuitable, as employees need to connect ethernet cables to their desks in order to receive reliable internet access. A few people get by by turning their phones into hotspots, as per Reuters report.
In a 229-page glossy book, the company showcased the groundbreaking features of the new building and surrounding campus, including "Googley interiors" and "an environment where everyone has the tools they need to be successful."
However, "we've had Wi-Fi connectivity issues in Bay View," a Google spokesperson admitted. Google "made several improvements to address the issue," according to her, and the company anticipated having a solution in the upcoming weeks.
One AI engineer stationed at the building, which also houses the advertising team, claims that Google's push for a three-day-per-week return-to-office policy has been hindered by the unreliable Wi-Fi.

"World's Leading Internet Company Would Have Worked This Out"
"You¡¯d think the world¡¯s leading internet company would have worked this out," he stated. He, too, spoke under pseudonymity because Google has forbidden them from discussing working conditions, as per the report.
Supervisors have urged staff members to take a walk outside or take a seat at the nearby cafe, where there is a stronger Wi-Fi signal. Recently, some people received new laptops with stronger Wi-Fi chips.
Although employees claim that the 600,000-square-foot building's swooping, wave-like rooftop swallows broadband like the Bermuda Triangle, Google has not publicly revealed the reasons behind the Wi-Fi issues.
Google employees are working feverishly to deploy the most recent iterations of Gemini, the cutting-edge artificial intelligence software that is critical to the company's future, beneath that oceanic roof. With the widespread release of ChatGPT in late 2022, this type of AI has gained enormous popularity in Silicon Valley.
