Internet Voiced Mixed Reactions To This Cartier Incident
While some applauded his triumph over the luxury brand, others condemned him for capitalizing on what they perceived as an inadvertent error by the company. Certain users suggested that he return the earrings or pay taxes on them. Mexican Senator Lilly Tellez also chimed in, expressing her belief on X that Mr. Villarreal shouldn't necessarily retain the earrings solely due to a retailer's mistake.
Mr. Villarreal, however, expressed his contentment upon receiving the earrings, stating, "I was very happy when the earrings arrived, but the reality is they don't just represent a purchase." He elaborated, "I was aware of my rights as a consumer, but not everyone is. So this case helps raise awareness among Mexican people about their basic rights, including those protected by consumer law."
