Zomato Requests Customers To Avoid Ordering Food During ¡®Peak Afternoon¡¯, Faces Backlash

Summer, this year, has broken all records. The heat is unbearable and daily life has become a big task for most of us, right? Can you imagine the plight of delivery agents?

In consideration of the extreme heatwave gripping the country, food delivery app Zomato made a special request to all its customers. However, it didn¡¯t land as well as they would have expected it to.

In a post shared on X, the food delivery giant appealed to its customers to avoid placing orders during the ¡®peak afternoon¡¯ hours.

Zomato¡¯s Appeal Has Been Met With A Mix Response From The Internet

Opinions on the food delivery giant's initiative were divided, with some commending it while others expressed criticism.

A user wrote, ¡°Bro, you are in food services and people order food when it is absolutely necessary. If you actually care about your employees, you would be posting, Our services are unavailable during peak afternoon hours.¡±

A customer pointed out, ¡°If people don¡¯t order it¡¯s the delivery riders that lose the most. Instead why not add a mandatory ¡°heat related tip/ hardship charge¡± to every order and give 100% of that to your delivery boys to allow them to make some extra money.¡±

¡°Did the same today. Ordered directly from the Restaurant. Thank you for being so considerate about the delivery boys. Zomato is more worried about the delivery partners rather than their shares¡±, wrote another user praising the company.
