2024 is coming to an end, and it is time to take a look back at the impactful year it was, in the world of politics, economics, sports, science and technology, and more.

Disastrous Year for Boeing

Aviation giant Boeing was hoping to put its troubles in 2023 due to the 737 Max issues behind in 2024. But just days into 2024, an Alaska Air Boeing 737 Max 9 jet lost a rear door plug-in mid-flight.

While the incident did not cause any fatalities, the entire fleet of 737 Max 9 was grounded. Things went from bad to worse for Boeing in March, as John Barnett, a former quality control manager who became a whistleblower, was found dead under mysterious circumstances.

Starliner Spacecraft Launch

2024 was not done with Boeing yet, as the company once again made headlines for the wrong reasons in June. After multiple delays and budget overruns, Boeing finally launched its Starliner space capsule to space for its first manned mission.

However, due to technical issues, NASA refused Boeing permission to bring its crew back to Earth on the same Starliner, leaving Sunita Williams and Barry Wilmore still stuck in the ISS.

India Wins Cricket World Cup

2024 was a memorable year for India as the Men in Blue lifted the T20 World Cup. Team India won the World Cup, defeating South Africa, which was also the last game for some of India's all-time great cricketers.

India Wins Bronze in Olympic Hockey

Cricket was not the only game that brought cheer to Indian fans in 2024. In an Olympics otherwise dominated by the unfortunate disqualification of Vinesh Phogat, the men's hockey team brought some joy, winning the bronze medal in Paris by beating Spain 2¨C1.

Arguably the most dominant news event in India in 2024 was Modi 3.0. Narendra Modi and the BJP retained power for a third successive term in office, winning the world's largest election.

2024 was a great year for Elon Musk, who tasted success with his multiple ventures. Musk also 'invested' heavily in Donald Trump, and the Republican's victory in the US Presidential election saw the Tesla CEO's fortunes hit an all-time high.

Ukraine Occupies Russia

In 2024, the unthinkable happened in the more than one-and-a-half-year Russia-Ukraine war that started in February 2022. Ukraine invaded and captured parts of the Kursk Oblast in Russia in August 2024. Despite efforts by Russia, Ukraine has managed to maintain its control over Kursk, even while losing the war on other fronts.
