WWE SmackDown results: DIY turns heel, beats Motor City Machine Guns, to win WWE Tag Team Championship
Ciampa distracted the referee with a steel chair, allowing Gargano to land a low blow on Sabin. Gargano then hit Shelley, who came to Sabin's aid, with a superkick before tagging Ciampa in to deliver a Meeting in the Middle and secure the victory.
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa are the new WWE Tag Team Champions after defeating Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin on the December 6 episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Ciampa secured the win for DIY, thanks to a low blow by Gargano on Sabin.
Motor City Machine Guns dethroned as tag team champions
The Motor City Machine Guns, who made their WWE debut in October, had won their first tag team championship the very next week, defeating DIY and Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa in consecutive matches.
Shelley and Sabin, who defended their WWE Tag Team Championship against The Street Profits the following week, ended their 43-day reign as champions with the loss to DIY on SmackDown.
DIY picks up second tag team championship
Friday's win marks DIY's second reign as WWE Tag Team Champions; they had previously held the belts for 28 days after defeating A-Town Down Under on July 5. The duo who came together as a tag team during their NXT days in 2015, has largely remained together, except for their feud in 2017-18.
DIY turns heel
With their second tag team title win, DIY also turned heel as Ciampa distracted the referee with a steel chair, allowing Gargano to land a low blow on Sabin. Gargano then hit Shelley, who came to Sabin's aid, with a superkick before tagging Ciampa in to deliver a Meeting in the Middle and secure the victory.
