Tesla Motors had been the first one to tell the world that an electric powered vehicle need not be a boring piece of machinery that can only reach up to a particular speed. A US brethren of the company has now shown that it can actually be anything you want, even a superbike that touches speeds of up to 322 kmph.
Lightning Motorcycles had all the eyes on itself when the US based electric bike maker officially launched its latest motorcycle, the Strike. Anticipations had been high around the bike and the firm¡¯s second offering did not disappoint, delivering on its promised specs.

The Strike has been launched in three variants- standard, mid-range and carbon. While all the three variants come with the same electric motor, they are backed by different battery packs.
Standard, being the base variant, comes with a 10-kWh battery pack making 91PS power and 245Nm of peak torque. Add 5 kgs to the battery and you get the mid-range variant with an increased range of 160 kms in the city and 240 kms on the highway.

Carbon, the top-trim of the electric superbike, promises a 241 km range in the city and 322 km on the highway. It churns out 122PS of power and comes with carbon-fibre body panels for an increased speed of up to 241 kmph, in comparison with the 217 kmph of the regular variants.
In addition, the Carbon variant comes with Ohlins suspension on both its ends, Brembo brakes and an AIM Strada racing dash that has an integrated lap timer and GPS-based data logging.
Lightning claims that the bikes can be charged in 6 to 8 hours through a 110v outlet, while another level of charging can do the same within 2 to 3 hours. An optional fast charger can further quicken things up, with a claimed charging time of 20 minutes.
