Director Divyang Thakkar explores an uncharted space in Jayeshbhai Jordaar and creates a giggly fun journey around the concept of female foeticide.?
When this ambitious film starring Ranveer Singh released on the big screen, it failed to make a dent. Despite all the buzz and anticipation around the film, this film was cast aside probably due to its fair of glitches, however, contrary to popular belief, the filmmaker did not abandon the inherent structure of it.
Jayesh Bhai, played by Ranveer Singh, and Jayesh's intimidating father Pruthvish, performed by Boman Irani, and dejected mother Jashoda, performed by Ratna Pathak Shah, are busy reinforcing patriarchy in a fictional Gujarat village. They want to have a grandson to carry on their family's name and will go to any lengths to make it a reality.
Restoring the dignity of the girl child is Jayeshbhai Jordaar's motive. It is not a new message. Na Aana Is Des Laado, a TV serial ran for 3 years and touched many lives without singing such messages. Recently, the film Sharmaji Namkeen, starring Rishi Kapoor and Paresh Raval, attempted to challenge patriarchal ideologies as well.
Although the film has only two hours of running time, some scenes seem unnecessarily stretched. The dialogues are lacklustre at times and even Ranveer has his off days no matter how hard he tries. The dedication that this actor shows when he's on-screen is admirable. He always gives a hundred per cent even if the writing isn't up to snuff; because of that, most fans continue to root for him. Shalini Pandey keeps up with her accommodating attitude as well.
Despite a poor run at the box office, Jayeshbhai Jordaar has left many impressed post its release on OTT platform. After having watched the film, many people are applauding the makers and the actors for attempting such a pressing issue.
