It was seven years ago when Anurag Kashyap gave Indian cinema a classic tale of revenge and blood feud that people can¡¯t get over even now. For the first time, a gruesome and dark saga was seen as a breath of fresh air. For the first time, people appreciated actors and not heroes. Gangs of Wasseypur was a game-changer for Indian cinema, a film that somewhat showcased the brutal reality.
Can a film like Gangs of Wasseypur be ever made again? Seven years on, Anurag Kashyap says that he is burdened by the masterpiece. People¡¯s expectations keep him in misery. He says the film ruined his life exactly seven years ago, and he still doesn¡¯t know how to deal with that.
¡°7 years back is exactly when my life got ruined. Since then all everyone wants me to do is the same thing over and over again. Whereas I have only been unsuccessfully been trying to get away from that expectation . Anyways hope that ¡°????? ????¡± is over by the end of 2019,¡± he wrote on Twitter.
For the unversed, Gangs of Wasseypur was based on a real-life story, of a gangster, who clashes with a coal mining mafia. The film was loved by one and all for its rawness. It¡¯s dialogues like ¡°Us harami ko Mitana Hai Hamein, Goli Nahin marenge , Keh ke Lenge uski¡± are still popular among the youth. ?
"I don¡¯t have a stature to reject films. But there are many reasons to reject a film, a character shouldn¡¯t resemble an earlier character that I have played. After Gangs (Of Wasseypur), I got around 200 scripts, if I had signed them then, you wouldn¡¯t get to see me in this film. There comes a time that you have to think and act. I have seen a lot of friends being greedy on signing films, and failing," he had earlier told Indian Express.
