The official synopsis of the film reads ¡°Now retired and living in self-imposed exile in the world¡¯s most glamorous city, Poirot reluctantly attends a s¨¦ance?at a decaying, haunted palazzo. He soon gets thrust into a sinister world of shadows and secrets when one of the guests is murdered¡±
The murder mystery is based on Christie's "Hallowe'en Party," published in 1969. The mystery, which is set in Venice on All Hallows' Eve during World War II, centers on renowned investigator Hercule Poirot (Branagh), who hesitantly shows up for a s¨¦ance at a haunted palazzo. Once again, the former investigator must figure out who killed one of the guests.
The original movie made over $352 million in 2017, far more than the threequel, which completed its run with $112 million in box office receipts. It even fell short of surpassing Death on the Nile, the less successful sequel, which made $137 million after multiple postponements because of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2022.
