The internet has become a big debating ground since a couple of days, courtesy Zoya Akhtar¡¯s recently released OTT film The Archies.?
The excitement which was built up over star kids like SRK¡¯s daughter Suhana Khan, Boney Kapoor-Sridevi¡¯s daughter Khushi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan¡¯s grandson Agastya Nanda, making their big acting debuts bit the dust soon after the release of the much-awaited film.??
So much so, that it has opened floodgates of memes and trolling. The whole conversation around nepotism gone wrong has kickstarted all over again.
Constructive criticism has also come under the spotlight, where people are discussing why talented young actors who do not come from a filmy background aren¡¯t given such an opportunity to showcase their craft.
A discussion on the same ensued, where commentators posted how it would make a huge difference if big filmmakers chose and invested money in relatable concepts and good stories like Kota Factory as launchpads for star kids instead of opting for mediocre content
The Archies follows the life of seven teenagers in the idyllic fictional town of Riverdale. The 3 minute long trailer shows the titular character of Archie Andrews, essayed by Agastya, who is a compulsive flirt and has his eyes set on Veronica, portrayed by Suhana, and Betty portrayed by Khushi, both of whom are best friends.
The trailer shows the group of teenagers wrestling with love, heartache, friendship and rebellion as it offers a glimpse into the world of the film, set in the hilly town of Riverdale, in the India of the 1960s.
The conflict in the film arises when ¡®Green Park¡¯, which is so dear to the teenagers, gets sold for building a swanky hotel by Veronica¡¯ dad, who also buys all the shops at Town Square to rebuild them into a plaza. This leads to friction between the friends and sets the ground for the narrative.
The film is directed by Zoya Akhtar, who has co-written it with Reema Kagti and Ayesha Devitre.?
It is available for streaming on Netflix.
