The action-packed web series Commando, by director-producer Vipul Shah and actress Adah Sharma, is a continuation of the Commando film series starring Vidyut Jammwal. The Force actor has been replaced by debutant Prem Parrijaa in the OTT series, which debuted on Disney+ Hotstar on August 11.?
In an exclusive interview with us, Prem Parrijaa and Adah Sharma talked about what is different this time, action scenes and a lot more!
Adah claimed that Commando had Vidyut first who was the lightening and now it has Prem Aka Love - that's what makes it different! And for her, she must perform her duties as an actor regardless of the medium, thus it is the same for her. The budget is also the same. Fans of Commando would enjoy seeing her reprise her role as Bhavna Reddy.?
Prem recalled having a dream to become an actor at the age of 11. He says he told his parents, who are from a middle-class family, that he wanted to be an actor. His sister and parents encouraged him and gave him the freedom to pursue his interests. For him, it's a fantastic beginning and a tremendous opportunity.
Talking about how people have been saying that Commando is not the same without Vidyut, Prem said, ¡°Vidyut sir set a benchmark where only he could have done it and nobody else could do that. I feel grateful that he has set up this name and I am getting to take it forward. People are watching the teaser, trailer and everything because of him. So I understand the reaction. People have loved him. However I hope to bring out a new kind of action which is raw and real. And my kind of vulnerability which is very different this time with my character. He is not just a killing machine, he also is a nice guy and has a lovely relationship with his mother, friends and others. You connect to why he does what he does. There is pressure but it's good because diamonds are made under pressure only. I hope I can do justice to it.¡±
While talking about her famous film 1920 which followed a horror story, Adah stated that she would for sure like acting in the same genre, but only if the level is higher than 1920 because audiences come to expect more from you than what you have previously delivered.?
"Horror before that was associated with a lot of erotica, and this was a film that had none of it" She continued by saying that with 1920? they were attempting a new idea, and people seemed to enjoy it. "
Since she has worked in various regional languages, we asked if she see a difference in industries and its way of working.
Adah said, ¡°I have met both good and bad people. It usually depends on the director, if he is well prepared then it is a joy and if not and he becomes nasty to people on set then the environment is not nice. It has nothing to do with the language or industry. Mostly i¡¯ve got good ones but have had not so good ones also.? It's just about the people involved or who are heading it.¡±
Prem mentioned that two teachers in Mumbai taught him for the Commando series and that they put a lot of effort into him, therefore it should be credited to them. However, he doesn't diet, eats healthy, and generally maintains his fitness throughout the year. He had to bulk up for Commando and train a lot, which was further enhanced by a lot of martial arts. The action scenes were beautifully arranged by a talented action director, and it was thrilling to perform every scene with action. And as Prem says 'It's all raw and real'.
Talking about her part, Adah said that her character Bhavna is quirky. She is not just badass but also kind of crazy. She added, ¡°We had Andy Long and he was also there with his team in Commando 3, they are Jackie Chan¡¯s action team. They made me practice Nunchaku and we did it with other things too which is very interesting¡±
She went on to add, ¡°We all love and see a lot of action. Mission Impossible released, we have John Wick, so some difference in action is nice. Like Jackie Chan adds humour to his scenes. So that's how Bhavna Reddy¡¯s role was designed.¡±
Talking about if negative comments affect her, the actress said ¡°Depends where the negativity is coming from. If it's coming from my people I would take it seriously like my mom or a director I'm working with. But if somebody on the internet without a name, DP or has zero followers makes a comment and says ¡®I think you should die and burn in hell¡¯ then I do not take that seriously because it doesn't affect me. And about the audience, they have been very kind even when I had not done a lot of work. And of course, after Kerala Story everyone has been really nice and they are saying good things about the film doing well and my performance. But even if I put a random video on Instagram, there are many people rooting for me who say ¡®isko koi film dedo, give her something good¡¯ . Those wishes got me a film like Kerala Story. People have always been wishing well for me so too much hate did not come my way.¡±
Talking about his struggle to step into the industry, Prem said, ¡°It's no cakewalk. There are many challenges for someone who comes from Orissa to Mumbai for work." He said that because he is an outsider he has to know everything from acting, fitness and what not.?
He concluded by saying ¡°It has been a struggle but I don't focus on that because it was all worth it.¡±?
