Even though Gangs of Wasseypur has been out for ten years, fans of the series occasionally talk about how masterfully it was created.
The two-part epic gangster drama's debut in 2012 solidified Anurag as one of the nation's leading filmmakers and exposed viewers to a number of performers who would go on to become celebrities.
For the unversed, Vicky Kaushal served as the movie's assistant director, and Anurag shared a story about how Vicky wound up in jail while they were filming.
Anurag explained in Hindi, ¡°During Wasseypur, Vicky Kaushal went to jail once¡ We would shoot without permission, and once we were shooting the actual illegal sand mining that the mafia was conducting there. And Vicky got caught.¡±
However, Haraamkhor filmmaker Shlok Sharma who served as the second unit director of Gangs of Wasseypur was arrested twice while shooting the film.
Anurag had said in an interview with PTI, ¡°In Wasseypur, he went to jail twice. He wanted to shoot such shots of tracks that he placed cameras on the bridge. He then went to jail for that and if they had a camera there, he would have shot there as well.¡±
Back in 2020, Vicky had also recalled the time he was an assistant director. Sharing two photos on Instagram he wrote, "Circa 2010- Jab hum frame se bahar khade hua karte thhey. #GangsOfWasseypur. The first clap was nerve wrecking... had to give it in front of @bajpayee.manoj Sir¡¯s face, #RajeevRavi Sir behind the camera and @anuragkashyap10 Sir at the monitor. After many rehearsals in a closed room on location, I did give my first clap. ¡°Scene 72A, shot 1, take 1¡± ... the first thing I said in front of a camera and that¡¯s how it all started!"
Anurag Kashyap produced and directed the two-part criminal drama Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012, and he also wrote the screenplay with Zeishan Quadri.?
The film has an ensemble cast, with Manoj Bajpai, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Pankaj Tripathi, Richa Chadda, Huma Qureshi, and Tigmanshu Dhulia playing the main roles. It is centred on the coal mafia (Mafia Raj) of Dhanbad and the underlying power struggles, politics, and vengeance between three crime families.
A total of 321 minutes long, both parts were originally intended to be one picture that would have aired at the 2012 Cannes Directors' Fortnight. However, because no Indian theatre would agree to screen a film longer than five hours, it was divided into two parts for that market.
Both movies were economically successful and gained widespread critical acclaim.
Vicky Kaushal will next be seen in a cameo in Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat directed by Anurag.
