After two successful seasons of 'Scam', Hansal Mehta has announced the third installment of the franchise. This time, the show will focus on Subrata Roy, and it will be called 'Scam 2010: The Subrata Roy Saga'. Hansal Mehta also posted the first preview for the show on social media and we are excited!?He captioned the post, “Sc3m is back! Based on Tamal Bandyopadhyay's book "Sahara: The Untold Story," the series will be produced by Applause Entertainment in association with Studio Next, and directed by Hansal Mehta. "Scam 2010" narrates the rags-to-riches-to-rags saga of Subrata Roy, a visionary entrepreneur. In the early 2000s, Roy faced allegations ranging from chit-fund fraud to fictitious investors, culminating in his arrest in 2014. With around Rs 25,000 crore still unclaimed by authorities, the aftermath of this scandal continues to echo even today.

The book’s description on Amazon tells us, “Sahara Group, the second largest employer in India, is embroiled in a legal battle with the regulators. Two of its firms are under a strict directive from the Supreme Court of India to refund all money that it had collected in the form of deposit or debentures to all its depositors within 3 months. Sahara : The Untold Story is a highly illustrated, anecdotal account of the biggest crisis ever for this corporate giant, how it originated in the first place and, years later, how and why they are wrapped up in the same kind conflict once again.Two of the Sahara group of companies are impeached by the Supreme Court of India with violation of regulatory norms by selling off public debentures and raising money. They are under a deadline of 3 months to refund all the money to their investors.”

As per the description, the group has a history of conflict with the income tax department. In 1996, the IT department demanded that they provide details of 100 MLAs, MPs, and prominent dignitaries allegedly depositing large amounts of black money with them. This led to a series of demands and ultimatums from the IT department to Sahara, with Sahara consistently fending off these actions with various excuses. It is intriguing and somewhat amusing that such a large corporate entity does not have complete details of its depositors. "Sahara: The Untold Story" delves into this powerful corporate giant, uncovering some previously undisclosed secrets and providing vivid accounts of the intricate battle with the IT department.

Subrata Roy died of a cardiorespiratory arrest at a private hospital in Mumbai on November 14, 2023, following a prolonged illness.
