In his own words, it¡¯s very tough to ignore Kartik Aaryan.
Some may call this overconfidence or cockiness but the man sure grabs eyeballs with his appearances and movies. It won¡¯t be wrong to say but his choice of roles is pretty top-notch, give or take a few roles.?
His recently released movie Freddy is generating a lot of buzz on the internet. Thanks to my OTT-addiction, I started the day with a fresh cup of coffee and a slice of Freddy¡¯s streaming. While the film kept me on the edge of my seat, a thought continuously ran through my head - Kartik Aaryan can definitely become the new generation ¡®superstar¡¯. He has all the potential, a crazy fan-following and a go-getter attitude!?
There has been some chatter about how he has a solid PR machinery that leaves no stone unturned to promote him and keep him in the limelight but the big question is who doesn't? Almost every budding actor who is loaded has a solid entourage to support his/her endeavors but only a few manage to win hearts with their work.?
Interestingly, many critics believe that superstardom that is enjoyed by the Khans, Kapoors and Bachchans will not pass on considering how the showbiz has undergone a transformation but the hopeless cinema lovers still believe that new superstars will take over and keep the tradition alive. In that very vein, Aaryan is definitely the front-runner.
Despite fallouts with big banners and being deemed as the ¡®replacement actor¡¯ in sequels, he¡¯s bringing his A-game to every project that he signs. 2022 witnessed only a handful of Bollywood movies becoming Box Office hits. One of them was Aaryan¡¯s Bhool Bhulaiya 2. In now way are we suggesting that he is the only reason behind the film¡¯s success as it also starred the super talented actress Tabu but he sure gets brownie points for nailing his flag which was shaken after he got terminated from a big project!
Another interesting point to be noted is that he has faced wrath of fellow industry folks and critics for choosing to do the same lover boy roles which couldn¡¯t show his acting range. The man of the hour, however, took all the criticism in his stride and experimented with roles that were outside of his comfort zone.?
In 2013, he starred in Akash Vaani which revolved around the sensitive subject of domestic violence but the film fell on deaf ears and couldn¡¯t fetch him praises. Kartik remained undeterred and kept listening to his heart. He then signed Dhamaka, in which he played the role of a journalist. This film showcased the number-chasing aspect of the trade and he was lauded for taking up such a bold project.
He followed it up with a horror comedy Bhool Bhulaiyaa which also showed him in a different avatar and was much appreciated.
His latest outing Freddy takes a complete 360 degree change. Aaryan plays a psycho freak dentist who squirms at even the thought of introducing himself to someone - he has to practice his intro line over and over again but he still fails at the time of execution in addition to nervously spilling water on his date.?
His uncomfortable demeanor and nervous personality makes for an interesting watch and at the same time manages to give audiences the heebie-jeebies. Unlike his stud persona, in this movie he plays the weak hero who is often decked by the villain and surprisingly, at no point does he transform into the macho action hero and retaliates.?
Freddy has managed to draw several comparisons with Saif¡¯s Being Cyrus and Joaquin Phoenix¡¯s Joker but it somehow stands out probably because Kartik brings a new flavour to it.?
This movie has no heroes, only villains and Aaryan is the most terrifying one of all. The story is somewhat unpredictable which makes it all the more thrilling. In fact, Aryaan has outperformed himself in the climax of Freddy. While many would hope for a plain vanilla ending, it hardly comes down to that.
The experimental streak of Kartik Aaryan doesn¡¯t conclude with Freddy. His next project titled Shehzada will showcase him as an out and out action hero performing high-octane stunts. The Rohit Dhawan directorial is a remake of the hit Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo which starred Pushpa fame Allu Arjun. This means that Aaryan has big shoes to fill but considering his dedication and precision to get his roles right, he is likely to stun the audiences once again.?
?If you think that his quest for experimenting will steer him away from the romance genre, then you are highly mistaken. Kartik will continue to do what he does best alongside out-of-the-box roles - romancing on screen! His other project Satyaprem Ki Katha is a romance musical which is slated to release in June next year.
One thing¡¯s for sure - Kartik Aaryan is a force to reckon with and he¡¯s here to stay.
