With his previous movie, Zwigato, comedian Kapil Sharma pleasantly surprised everyone and demonstrated his acting prowess. Zwigato has already secured a seat in the permanent core collection of the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Nandita Das, who wrote Zwigato with Samir Patil, is the film's director. Zwigato was praised for the actor's powerful performance and its original plot even though the movie didn't fare well at the box office. Zwigato has yet to be made available on OTT, despite earning good reviews.
She wrote, ¡°I was most surprised and delighted to receive an email from the Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (The Oscars!) about wanting the script of Zwigato for their Permanent Core Collection. It is a happy reminder that the film is relevant and glad we made it. I believe only when stories are authentic and rooted in their own contexts, they transcend cultures and borders and become part of world cinema. I am glad that it will be available in the library for students, filmmakers and writers. The overwhelming response that we have got for Zwigato from both audiences and critics has opened unexpected doors such as this. Hope OTT platforms are reading this! I think it¡¯s time to give the audience the opportunity to see Zwigato. Thank you Library of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences for this honour!¡±
Talking about selecting Kapil Sharma for her movie, Nandiat Das told news agency ANI, "I had not seen Kapil Sharma's show, so I did not know much about him. But one day my eyes fell on a video of Kapil which was from an award show. When I saw that clip, I felt like aam aadmi ki tarah hai. His languages and gestures speak of a common man's mannerisms."
?In 2022, Zwigato had its debut at the Toronto International Film Festival. On March 17, 2023, it was released in theatres. The story centres on a man who, after losing his work as a floor manager at a plant due to Covid, accepts a position as a delivery partner for the food delivery service Zwigato.
