Did you know the much awaited web series from renowned director Karan Johar is about nepotism in the Bollywood industry?
The Head of Content at Disney+ Hotstar, Gaurav Banerjee, provided information on the new web series of Karan Johar, "Showtime," as well as the future season of his talk show "Koffee With Karan," during the trailer launch event for the upcoming web series "The Trial," starring Kajol.
¡°Karan Johar is going to come back with a new season of Koffee With Karan. He¡¯ll be shooting for it soon,¡± Banerjee confirmed.
It is important to note that the online series was unveiled by Dharmatic Entertainment (the web division of Dharma Productions of Johar) in September of last year in collaboration with streaming service Disney+ Hotstar.
Talking about what the show entails according to HT, Karan said, ¡°I am excited to associate with Disney+ Hotstar for our new collaboration, announced at the prestigious D23 Expo. In addition to yet another exciting season of my beloved show, Koffee With Karan, happy to announce an all-new Dharma Production series, Showtime, which will lift the curtain on India¡¯s entertainment industry¡¯s biggest trade secrets.¡±
The show's directors, Mihir Desai (Masoom) and Archit Kumar (Dr. Arora), will explore the hardships of an outsider trying to get into Bollywood. The title's lead actors are Bollywood A-lister Emraan Hashmi and Indian TV star Mahima Makwana.
The synopsis of the show released by Disney+ Hotstar reads, ¡°Bollywood is the land of dreams šC dreams that are dreamt with eyes wide open. Showtime, a drama series, brings forward all the off-screen fights for the power that runs the show. A deep, raw, unconcealed and uninhibited look into the battle lines that are drawn and crossed to keep the camera rolling and the audiences clapping. There is only one emperor that sits on the chair - but what¡¯s a throne without a fight to get there? So, lights¡ camera¡ and action!¡±
In the meantime, the seasoned director is back in the director's chair for the next rom-com film, "Rocky Aur Rani kii Prem Kahaani," which stars A-list actors Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh in their second collaboration.
The movie is finally set to open in theatres on July 28 after two delays.
