Painkili OTT Release: Sajin Gopu recently spearheaded this Malayalam film which arrived in theatres on 14th February this year. Opened to mixed-to-positive reviews, the family drama earned Rs 3.96 crore at the box office. However, the film is gearing up for its OTT debut within a month. Painkili will be streaming on Manorama MAX by the end of March 2025.
Suku, a young man running a small printing press, becomes involved in a legal altercation and decides to feign insanity to avoid legal consequences. He is committed to a mental institution, where he meets Asha, a compassionate nurse who sees through his act. Unexpectedly, Suku falls in love with Asha amidst the unconventional setting of the institution.
Parallelly, Sheeba, another resident of the institution, frequently attempts to escape her home due to her family's persistent pressure to marry. Her repeated attempts lead her to the same institution, where her path crosses with Suku's. Together, they navigate their personal struggles, leading to humorous and heartfelt moments.
Other than Sajin, Painkili also stars Anaswara Rajan, Jisma Vimal, Roshan Shanavas, Abu Salim, Chandu Salimkumar, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Riyaz Khan, Aswathy B and Ambili Ayappan among others. Written by Jithu Madhavan and directed by debutant Sreejith Babu, the film is cinematographed by Arjun Sethu.
Produced by Fahadh Faasil and Jithu Madhavan under the banner of Urban Animal and Fahadh Faasil and Friends, this Justin Varghese musical is edited by Kiran Das.
The Times of India rated the movie 3 out of 5 and a part of their review read, ¡°It¡¯s the season of love, but if you are looking for a typical love story, Painkili isn¡¯t it. Basically, the film seems to have woven together a bunch of crazy incidents which lead from one step to the next of the narrative, but throughout the film, you don't quite get the grip of what the film is about. If that doesn't bother you, the Sreejith Babu directorial makes for an entertaining watch.¡±
