Om Raut¡¯s recently released film Adipurush is stirring controversies from much before it hit the theatres. After the Prabhas and Kriti Sanon starrer was released, a large number of people are demanding a ban on the film. On Tuesday, one such plea was heard in the Lucknow High Court.
The HC quoted in Hindi, ¡°The kind of dialogues that are there in the film... it's a big issue. Ramayana is an example for the people. It is venerated. People step out of their homes after reading the Ramcharitmanas.¡±
The vacation bench of justices Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Shree Prakash Singh further added, ¡°When the filmmaker has shown Lord Rama, Devi Sita, Lord Laxman, Lord Hanuman, Raavan, Lanka, etc., how will the disclaimer convince the people at large that the story is not from Ramayana.¡±

The court further asked Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey to find out whether the central government contemplated reviewing the Censor Board¡¯s certificate. The court said, ¡°Some things should not have been tinkered with.¡± Adipurush also stars Saif Ali Khan and Sunny Singh in pivotal roles.
"Agar hum log iss par bhi aankh band kar len kyonki yeh kaha jaata hai ki yeh dharm ke log bade sahishnu gain, toh kya uska test liya jayega? (Hindus are tolerant but why they are tested every time? When Hindus are civilised, is it correct to suppress them? Is this a test of tolerance?)" the court further said.
It said, ¡°We should be thankful to them. Some followers went to close the cinema halls but they got only the halls shut down, while they could have done many other things.¡± During the hearing, the HC also questioned why the producers, director, and other parties were absent.
For the unversed, earlier the High Court had asked, "What is it that the censor board keeps doing? What do you want to teach the future generations?" Adipurush is an unsaid retelling of the epic Ramayana and has left the audiences disappointed with its colloquial language and portrayal of Hindu deities.
