Most of you might not remember but it was in 2017 that film producer Madhu Mantena who co-produced?Ghajini (2008) announced one of his most ambitious projects Ramayan, to be directed by Chhichhore fame Nitesh Tiwari and Mom fame Ravi Udyawar. After five years of research, the Super 30 producer says the script of the film will be ready in a couple of months.
"The story needs that amount of research and effort. We are aiming to start shooting from September 2023,"Mantena told Pinkvilla.
Rumours are rife that Hrithik Roshan and Ranbir Kapoor will star in the movie. Madhu Mantena had earlier told the publication, "Please expect the biggest cast ever in the history of Indian cinema. The characters of Ravana, Ram, Sita, Laxman are larger than life. You will see actors who are the best in class in terms of performances, coming on board the film. When I say the biggest cast ever, I mean it. It¡¯s going to be really exciting."
After Adipurush debacle, people have high hopes from this one. Madhu Mantena had told TOI that the budget of the film might exceed Rs 300 crores. "I started the project, I had thought we can make the film for Rs 300 crore, but today, I don¡¯t think that much will be enough to tell this story."
Furthermore, talking about competition with Adipurush, the producer who has backed Udta Punjab in the past said, "We have spent four years researching and developing these worlds and visuals. We are telling our traditional, popular Ramayan and the beliefs that have been formed around it. So there is no competition. In the past it has been told in several forms and formats and we will tell our own Ramayan."
