What a proud moment for the country as the Chhello Show and RRR gets shortlisted for the esteemed 95th Academy Awards popularly known as Oscars 2023. As the country starts to vote for these films¡¯ nominations, it is officially confirmed that Rishab Shetty¡¯s blockbuster Kannada film Kantara has also been sent for consideration in the award show.

SS Rajamouli¡¯s Naatu Naatu will be competing with 15 popular tracks including, 'Nothing Is Lost' from 'Avatar: The way Of Water', 'Lift Me Up' from 'Blank Panther: Wakanda Forever', 'Hold My Hand' from 'Top Gun: Maverick' among others. For the Chello Show category, 15 international feature films from 92 countries and regions were eligible.
The list includes Close (Belgium), Decision to Leave (South Korea), All Quiet on the Western Front (Germany), Alejandro G. I?¡À??rritu¡¯s Bardo (Mexico) and Joyland, which gives Pakistan its first shortlisted film in the category. For the unversed, Chello Show is a Gujarati coming-of-age story directed by Pan Nalin.

The founder of Hombale Productions Vijay Kirgandur who backed Rishab Shetty¡¯s Kannada film is hopeful despite sending the film at the last moment. He told India Today, "We have submitted our application for Oscars for Kantara and have our fingers crossed as the final nominations are yet to come. Kantara as a story is so rooted that we hope it can find a voice worldwide as well."
Reportedly Vijay also confirmed that they are planning to turn Kantara into a franchise. He told PTI, "Rishab is away and once he is back, we will discuss what we want to do -- a sequel or a prequel. We will have something in a couple of months. We definitely have plans for Kantara 2 but there¡¯s no timeline." Kantara was released first on September 30th this year and has grossed over 400 crores through all markets. The film is now available on Netflix for a global audience.
