The first poster of the movie was unveiled a week before the movie's release, and it was only on that day that the release date of the film was also announced. Arjun Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar's?The Lady Killer is apparently an unfinished movie that was released in theatres on Nov 3, five days after the trailer was released. It sounds unbelievable, right?
With barely any promotion and information, the film directed by?Ajay Bahl (known for films like?BA Pass and Section 375) and produced by?Shaailesh R Singh and Sahil Mirchandani was released this Friday and the box office collections are equally surprising.?
If reports are to be believed, only 293 tickets across India were sold on Day 1, and the film's box office collection was merely Rs 38,000.?
Some reports suggested that the movie went over the budget and the producers didn't want to invest in it any further. Reportedly made on a budget of Rs 45 crores, the movie needed another Rs 4-5 crores to kickstart the movie again. So, they made some smart decisions during the post-production and editing stage to make sense of everything that was shot.
Some other reports claimed that only 5-10 days of shoot was disrupted because of heavy rains in Uttrakhand.?
As per a report on Bollywood Hungama, "Over 10 days of shoot was pending, and producers decided to stall the shoot because the film was over budget. They have played smartly on the edit table to make sense of all the stuff that was shot. The film is being released only because a digital deal is locked and the same has to be delivered to their digital partner post-theatrical release."
Since, the makers already have a contract with an OTT streaming platform, reportedly Netflix, they have released the unfinished movie to adhere to the contract. "Now the contracts are signed and to get the money, the film has to be released on the big screen," the source added.
