10 Things That ONLY Happen In Indian TV Soaps!

I always wonder what's so addictive about Indian TV soaps that some people just can't get enough of it. While some soaps show the most cliched things in the most ridiculous manner, there are some who just don't seem to be coming to an end and have been going on air for years now. Nonetheless, idiot box, as the name suggests, would continue having millions of idiots glued to these soaps. Amid all this, let's take a look at some of the most bizarre and over-the-top things that you won't find anywhere else, but on Indian TV. Mind you, these are the ingredients that add spice to these soaps and make them soar on TRP charts.

1. It's only in our TV soaps that women would go to bed wearing in the best of sarees and heaviest of jewellery and sleep with their full make-up on. And what amuses me most is how they manage to keep everything intact when they get up the next morning.

2. Look at the irony here. the otherwise regressive TV soaps showing women in weak light have most major decision of the family being taken only by the ladies in the house. Funniest is when the husband remains clueless about wife's action till the very end and it's only during climax that the truth is revealed.

3. No expression, no slap, no gesture is complete until it is shown thrice with full sound effects. And to add on to this dreadful effect, the frozen faces, black & white screen and broken glass effect seem to be tad too much to handle.

4. Everyone on Indian television has undergone at least one plastic surgery. Either to come out of an accident aftermath or to make a comeback in the show as someone's love interest, this has been a tried and tested formula. I wonder how much money would surgeons make if this was for real.

5. Infidelity is a part and parcel of almost everyone's married life but the way our Indian TV soaps show this aspect of relationship, no one can even imagine. Wife cheating on the husband with his own brother or husband falling for wife's sister. You don't even need to step out, for all the love triangles would be within the family only.

6. If you thought Bollywood is going berserk showing lovemaking scenes without any shame, check out small screen for a change. It is so funny to watch how TV soaps interpret this taboo in the most hilarious way. No wonder, romantic scenes on TV end up looking more like comedy scenes topped with those stupid orgasmic expressions.

7. The best thing about our Hindi TV soaps is that no matter at whatever point you leave watching them, even if you comeback after a month, you can easily guess the story, as it would have hardly moved ahead by a step or two. It's funny how scriptwriters don't get bored while stretching everything so much.

8. Who said wedding is a 3-day affair? For our Indian TV soaps, it has to go on for at least a month, if not more. Each function would be shown for a week and you would go mad counting the costume changes that characters go through during these celebrations.

9. Age leaps means nothing but characters with a changed style statement and to make it look realistic in the most ridiculous way, hideous grey highlights on hair would appear from nowhere. Ewww is the word!

10. While watching an Indian TV soap form start to end, you can technically travel a whole generation and still, the show won't come to an end. Stretching the storyline, bringing stupid twists and turns, age leaps, reincarnation etc, the shows would go on for years and years, making you lose your mind in the end.
