Not just fans, even Anupam Kher was amused and shocked at the same time. Sharing the news, he wrote, "My photo instead of Mahatma Gandhi's on a Rs 500 note??? Kuch bhi ho sakta hai (Anything can happen)."
Mehul Thakkar, a bullion trader, revealed that one of his employees was approached by some people for a deal involving 2,100 grams of gold which were valued at Rs 1.6 crore. The men delivered Rs 1.3 crores in the case and promised to pay the rest of the amount the next day. They vanished into thin air after handing over the money. When they checked the money, the notes turned out to be fake bearing Anupam Kher's face instead of Mahatma Gandhi's. Thakkar has now reported the matter at Navrangpura police station on September 24.??
The police are investigating the matter. They revealed that these men contacted Thakkar via Prashant Patel, a jewelry shop manager who has shared a long-standing business relationship with him. It was Patel who told Thakkar that these men won't be able to transfer the entire amount and would only be able to pay Rs 3 crore in cash.
The Police have access to CCTV footage and they are trying to find the suspects. Even they are shocked at this fraud. "This is a unique case of counterfeit currency with a Bollywood twist. We are working to identify and apprehend the culprits,"?said a Navrangpura police officer.?
