Validation of good work comes in many forms and sometimes, in the most unexpected ways. For filmmaker Anurag Kashyap his two-part crime drama Gangs Of Wasseypur taking the 59th spot on Guardian's list of 100 best films of 21st century is definitely a big achievement.
While many started pouring congratulatory messages for the filmmaker, he had a different take on it. He is filled with both gratitude and pride but he also had a message along-with it. Sharing the news on his social media handles, he wrote, 'Proud to be here but this wouldn't be his list.'?
He also added that several films that found the spot below Gangs Of Wasseypur deserved better ranking, including Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight (rank #98). He added,
Kashyap added that the franchise destroyed his career by setting a benchmark that's difficult for him to transcend. He said,
'Destroyed his filmmaking life by the expectations it set' and added that he hopes to 'break away from it.' He adds, "This is also is that film of mine that totally destroyed my filmmaking life by the expectations it sets from me as a filmmaker and has been continuously so, and I have forever been trying to break away from it. Hopefully, someday that will happen."
In the list, Paul Thomas Anderson's 2007 film There Will Be Blood took the top spot.
