It all started after the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) submitted a report to the Bihar government on May 26, 2018, that revealed how minor girls in Muzaffarpur's shelter home, Balika Greh, were being sexually abused.
? The Bihar government instantly took action on this. On May 29, it ensured that the girls were relocated to other protective facilities. Two days later on May 31, an FIR was filed against 11 people who were accused in the case.? ?
On August 2, the Supreme Court also acknowledged the case and revealed that 30 minor girls were sexually exploited in Muzaffarpur's women's shelter home. On Nov 29, the case was to CBI.?
Following this, in 2020, Brajesh Thakur who was called the mastermind behind the criminal activity and whose role CID actor Aditya Srivastava (as Bansi Sahu) is playing in Netflix's Bhakshak, was convicted in the case along with 18 others.? ?
Brajesh was a former?Bihar People's Party (BPP) MLA and?founder of the Seva Sankalp Evam Vikas Samiti NGO?who ran the shelter home where?34 girls, aged between 7 and 17, were?subjected to rape and assault for months. He was found guilty of aggravated sexual assault under the POCSO Act as well as gang rape.? ? ?
Brajesh Thakur and 11 others were sentenced to life imprisonment for physically and sexually assaulting several minor girls.? ??
He is serving a?life sentence following his conviction by a Delhi court in 2020.
Inspired by the real-life?Muzaffarpur shelter home case,?Bhakshak?is directed by Pulkit and produced by Gauri Khan and Gaurav Verma under the banner Red Chillies Entertainment. The movie is all set to be released on?February 9.??
