A day after the central government officially notified rules for the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), notable celebrities have shared their perspectives on the contentious issue.
Tamil superstar Vijay criticised the CAA, deeming it "divisive," while Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut expressed her support, urging people to understand the purpose behind the act.
Tamil actor Vijay, who recently launched his political party, Tamizhaga Vetrik Kazhagam, took to social media to convey his disapproval of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. He called it "divisive" and urged the ruling DMK regime in Tamil Nadu not to implement the CAA in the state.
Vijay emphasised that any legislation promoting 'divisive politics' is unacceptable.
In contrast, Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut used her Instagram stories to express support for the CAA.
She shared an image featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, captioned 'CAA' with Indian flag emojis.
Kangana also posted a video from 2014 in which PM Modi explains the rationale behind the CAA.
She urged her followers to understand the purpose of the act before forming opinions or emotions about it.
Meanwhile, YouTuber Elvish Yadav also posted in support of the CAA implementation and thanked the Indian Prime Minister and Home Minister for the same.?
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officially announced the implementation of the CAA on Monday. The act aims to expedite citizenship for undocumented non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
Citizenship will be granted to six minority communities that arrived in India before December 31, 2014, as per the provisions of the CAA.
