Former Pakistani cricketer Danish Kaneria has expressed his satisfaction following the Indian government's announcement of rules regarding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), aimed at providing citizenship to individuals of certain faiths who face persecution in neighboring countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.
"It is a positive development that will benefit everyone. Mr. Narendra Modi and Mr. Amit Shah have done a commendable job, and the straightforward implementation is particularly encouraging. This is beneficial for minorities and Hindus," Danish told IANS.
"As a Hindu and Sanatani, it is my responsibility to advocate for my fellow people. I have a deep spiritual connection with Lord Hanuman and Lord Ram. It's important for people to understand that this isn't a negative action; everyone has the right to express themselves freely," he added.
The Union Home Ministry officially announced the rules for the CAA on Monday, indicating that immigrants eligible for citizenship under the CAA would need to submit online applications through a designated web portal.
Kaneria, who represented Pakistan in international cricket from 2000 to 2010, played 61 Test matches and took 261 wickets at an average of 34.79. He also participated in 18 ODIs, claiming 15 wickets. With 1024 scalps in 206 First-Class matches, including 71 five-wicket hauls and 12 instances of ten-wicket hauls, Kaneria has left an indelible mark on the cricketing world.
