Amol Palekar, a veteran actor and filmmaker, recently made a bold statement against the widespread practice of lobbying for Oscar nominations in the Indian film business. Amol Palekar, who was named chairman of India's Oscar jury in 2015, talked about the difficulties and disputes he encountered throughout the selection process. While talking about the lobby he refrained from taking any names that are associated with lobbying but keen social media users have speculated that he is talking about Aamir Khan. There is no confirmation if he¡¯s actually talking about Aamir, but people on the internet do think that all of it is about Aamir want his film PK to be selected instead of Chaitanya Tamhane¡¯s Court.
"I talked to the press, but I never took any names. I never got involved in lobbying for any particular film and sent Chaitanya Tamhane¡¯s film Court to the Oscars. Another South Indian film was also in the race, but the superstar¡¯s movie was never there."
The video was shared by a social media user who wrote, ¡°Amol Palekar revealed how Aamir Khan severely forced him to send PK as India¡¯s entry for Oscars. Aamir¡¯s politics & lobbying to send his films for Oscars is well known. Hope no one is going to forget India isn¡¯t winning Oscar this year coz of so called good cinema advocate aamir.¡±
Reacting to the post, many recalled that Aamir usually advocates not going for awards. Some also went on to ask if this is actually true since Palekar did not take any names.?
?What do you think about this? Did Aamir lobby his film¡¯s Oscar entry?
