Maamaaaaaaa.... that was the first word that ever came out of Munni's mouth in Bajrangi Bhaijaan. Remember that heart-breaking scene that made many people cry???
The bond between Munni and Pawan aka Bajrangi Bhaijaan was heartwarming, and so was the connection between Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) and Ovi (Rudhraksh Jaiswal) in the much-anticipated film Extraction.
In Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Salman Khan takes it upon himself to escort the Pakistani child back to her home country. Did Deja Vu strike you too??
In Extraction, that's exactly what Chris Hemsworth's Tyler does as well. He is trying to rescue an Indian kid from Dhaka.?
SPOILER ALERT:? If you haven't see the film yet and are put off my spoilers, then this is where you retract, folks.
The entire movie revolves around a rescue mission.?
Just like Salman Khan¡¯s Pawan, Chris Hemsworth's Tyler faces a lot of hurdles during his journey to extract Ovi from his kidnappers.
Tyler could have left the kid and still got the money he needed. While he is on his mission, he is told that there is a ten million dollar reward for Ovi's death. But he develops a soft corner for the kid. Cut to, the emotional story. Tyler reveals to the kid that he has lost his six-year-old son to lymphoma. He then decides he would ensure that Ovi Mahajan reaches his home safely, even if that means sacrificing his own life.?
In Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Pawan doesn¡¯t trust anyone else and hence vows to take Munni to her parents in Pakistan by himself, especially after he sees how the travel agent had sold her to a brothel. In Extraction, Tyler goes through a similar moment when Gaspar offers equal share of the money to Tyler if he lets him kill Ovi.?
Chris' character chooses to save Ovi and kill Gasper instead. That¡¯s the moment he realises the world outside isn¡¯t safe for Ovi and that he shall do whatever it takes to protect him.
Ovi is always tagging behind Tyler. He trusts no one, not even his Chachu Saju, played by Randeep Hooda, but Tyler Rake.
Just like how Pawan only trusted Chand Nawad (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui) in Pakistan and took his help to safeguard Munni, Tyler during the tough time called Saju and teamed-up with him?against the police and elite force in order to escape Dhaka.
In the extended gun battle final fight sequence, he instructs Ovi to run towards an awaiting helicopter while he continues firing. While Ovi manages to escape to Mumbai, Tyler is shot in the side of the neck and he falls into the river. That indeed was an emotional moment that reminds of you how Pawan is separated from Munni towards the end.?
So, just like Bajrangi Bhaijaan risked his life to make sure Munni reaches back home safely, Tyler is also emotionally attached to Ovi. He risks his own life to save him.
Extraction isn't a realistic film, but it is set in the real world.??
From Didi Tera Dewar Deewana to Mehndi Laga Ke Rakhna, Bollywood songs are subliminally a part of the movie.
Apart from dazzling action scenes, what elevated the experience of watching Extraction is the cameo appearance of Bollywood music. As Tyler and Ovi are dodging gunmen in a Dhaka building, they break into an apartment where the famous songs play in the background. What's absurd here is is that the popular '90s tracks are being played in the present time in Dhaka.?
Also,?There were several other absurd and unanswered things that happened in the movie like how did Chris Hemsworth manage to get a Mercedes in such a short span of time, that too in slums of Bangladesh?
In case you didn't know the movie is written by Endgame co-director Joe Russo, who is also producing the film along with his brother Anthony Russo.?
The story of the film might not be as impressive or distinct as you would expect, but the action scenes are quite impressive. The movie¡¯s best scene is when Hemsworth retrieves the boy and attempts to make their way out of the small city, which is fortified by the villain¡¯s men. His face off with Randeep Hooda Saju is also one of the highlights of the movie.
All in all, Extraction is a great action movie and just that. It's hard to not think of Bajrangi Bhaijaan while watching it.?
