And he did it yet again. After bagging several Best Actor's trophies this year at various award shows, Joaquin Phoenix has won an Oscar too!
With this, he has become the second person to win Best Actor award for playing Joker. The first one, of course, was Heath Ledger, who posthumously won the Best Supporting Actor award in 2009 for his impeccable performance in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight.
As Joaquin Phoenix came up to the stage to accept the award, he gave an emotional and politically charged speech.?He also talked about his reputation of for difficult behavior on sets as an actor.
¡°I¡¯m grateful, so many of you in this room have given me a second chance and I think that¡¯s when we¡¯re at our best, when we support each other, not when we cancel each other out for past mistakes, but when we help each other to grow, when we educate each other, when we guide each other toward redemption.¡±
¡°Whether we¡¯re talking about gender inequality or racism or queer rights or indigenous rights or animal rights, we¡¯re talking about the fight against the belief, one nation, one race, one gender or one species has the right to dominate, control and use and exploit another with impunity,¡± he said.
¡°I think that we¡¯ve become very disconnected from the natural world and many of us, what we¡¯re guilty of is an egocentric world view, the belief that we¡¯re the center of the universe.¡±
Renee Zellweger, on the other hand, took home the honor for best actress at the 92nd annual Academy Awards. She won the award for her portrayal of the late Judy Garland in the biopic Judy.
