Known for movies like?My Brother¡Nikhil and I Am, filmmaker Onir has recently released his memoir titled I am Onir & I Am Gay in which he bared his heart out on his life and journey in Bollywood so far. Did you know he was supposed to direct 2003 movie Chameli, in which Kareena Kapoor essayed the role of a street-smart prostitute? However, the actress got him replaced.?
This happened after?Anant Balani, the director of the movie which also starred Rahul Bose died of a heart attack before the film was complete. The producers were looking for a new director. The producer, Rangita Nandy, approached Onir. He said he wasn't convinced on doing the movie, but he had agreed.?
"I half-heartedly agreed and was kind of relieved when things didn't work out, possibly because Kareena (Kapoor) was not keen on working with a new director," he wrote in his autobiography.?
Sudhir Mishra ended up directing the remaining portions of the movie. Fourteen months later, his debut movie My Brother Nikhil, starring Sanjay Suri, Juhi Chawla and Purab Kohli was released. His next movie I Am, which featured a segment on gay rights, went on to win a national award.??
Bobby wanted to work with Imtiaz Ali after he saw Socha Na Tha. He reached out to the ace filmmaker who had the script of Jab We Met, which was then titled Geet, ready. Imtiaz Ali was looking for financiers.?
"There was a studio called Shri Ashtavinayak who wanted to sign me. I told them that let's sign Imtiaz. He has a script ready. And let's talk to Kareena Kapoor (Bobby had worked with Bebo in Ajnabee)."
When Kareen refused to meet Imtiaz, Bobby took them to?Preity Zinta. However, days later, he learned that?Shri Ashtavinayak had struck a deal with Imtiaz and Kareena had also been brought on board. "And she had gotten her then-boyfriend, Shahid Kapoor to act opposite her. I was like, wow. Quite an industry. We were also to do Highway together but he again did his own thing. But I have no hard feelings against him." Bobby said.
