As per a report on Times Now, a close friend of the family has revealed that Anil Kuldip Mehta was doing fine. Clearing the air, he said he wasn't suffering from depression. "They never saw this coming. Malaika’s father never showed any signs of depression. He was always jovial, always smiling and laughing, and he doted on his daughters (Malaika, Amrita). There was never any sign of depression. Nobody in the family has any clue why he did what he did," he was quoted as saying by the publication.

Last year, Anil Mehta was admitted to the hospital for an undisclosed health-related issue. At that time, Malaika and her mother Joyce Polycarp were photographed outside a hospital in Mumbai. While the actress' mother Joyce is a Malayali Christian, Anil, was reportedly a Punjabi who was a retired Indian Merchant Navy officer.?
