Priyanka Chopra Jonas made a mark for herself in Bollywood by starting so young with a movie like Aitraaz. She later went on to become a well-known celebrity in India by starring in several successful blockbuster films. She explored a different aspect of the entertainment industry years later. She began looking for opportunities in Hollywood and landed with roles in Quantico, Citadel, and other projects. Priyanka Chopra has shown courage in her decision-making, which is why she hasn't held back when discussing the dark side of Bollywood and the reasons she left the industry. Today, as the actress turns a year older, lets take a look at times she has given bold statements about Bollywood.
In an interview with Dax Shepherd on his podcast Armchair Expert, Priyanka Chopra disclosed the reason why she was looking for work in the US.
She said, ¡°I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game, so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break. This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn't want to get, but I would require to schmooze certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require grovelling and I had worked a long time by then that I didn't feel like I wanted to do it.¡±
She added, ¡°So when this music thing came I was like ¡®fu** it I¡¯am going to America',¡± she said.?
Priyanka Chopra appeared on the Read The Room podcast and spoke about handling rejection. She said, ¡°It¡¯s hard. Especially in a job based on validation. Whether it is how many people come and watch your movie or what your director thinks about your performance or what your casting agent thinks, it is all subjective.¡±
She continued, ¡°I have seen so much rejection in the movie industry for so many reasons. Whether I wasn¡¯t right for the role, whether it was favouritism, whether it was that somebody¡¯s girlfriend was cast, like there are so many reasons it happened. I made peace a long time ago. It is real. We can all say ¡®I am better than that, I am confident¡¯. It is not true. You have to allow yourself to feel the rejection. It¡¯s like grieving. I am someone who does it. I will move on. I will brush it aside. A long time ago, I came to peace with rejection at work.¡±
When things weren't going her way, Priyanka admitted to being "terrified" and "weak in the knees" in an interview with Film Companion. She started hunting for work in Hollywood, landing a major part in the TV show Quantico. Specifically questioned about her remarks regarding politics in the Hindi film industry and what steps could be taken to prevent such circumstances, she said, ¡°Conversation is very important. We get caught up in pointing fingers, we get caught up in blame game. Cancel culture is so prevalent in our lives right now and people think it¡¯s the solution to everything, and I completely disagree. It¡¯s never one or two person¡¯s faults; it¡¯s the society that perpetuates that. We need to start thinking about how we create opportunities and space for others¡¡±
For the unversed, Priyanka Chopra will next be seen in The Bluff. She also has Heads of State alongside John Cena and Idris Elba.
